The opinion

I've been to Config when it was really small in 2020, right before the pandemic - and when it expanded to was quite a big event in 2024.

I liked it a lot when it was a cosier smaller event, but the bigger event felt too much like an ad for Figma to me. Too many boring talks, too crowded, and not enough clear networking opportunities and events around the conference. The ones that were there seemed to be mostly for some influencers' incrowd.

I am also not so keen on San Francisco as a city. Market Street feels unsafe at night, hotels are severely overpriced. It's a city I've been to a couple of times now. The attractions it has, I've seen them. There's an awesome little arcade, a decent art museum - and a road trip among Highway One is amazing... but why o why always SF?

I wish that Figma would organize their event in New York, Chicago, Boston, Boulder or Austin... why always San Francisco? There's more cities in the US than just SF. I get that it's the tech hub and that their office is there, but I don't love it.

What about... Config in Europe? Last year, there was a London edition and a Singapore edition, but I don't see announcements for these this year. Seems like the setup is back to SF only.
